At last! My Baby Zeeka has been christened. Baby Z had her baptism last Saturday, as those following my blog would know. I gave you a teaser of the things that were to be at Baby Z’s baptism last Saturday in this link:

http://mommyginger.com/2013/05/today-is-zeekas-baptism.html

I also talked about ways on how to prepare for your baby’s baptism.

Well, today, I will be sharing with you the list of my suppliers, which I hope many of you will find useful. I got a lot of inquiries when I shared photos in Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/mommyginger), twitter (https://twitter.com/mommyginj) and instagram (http://instagram.com/mommyginj). For those who have not yet followed me in these social networks, do follow me, please! So for the benefit or everyone, I am creating this list and a review of each supplier.

Church: Christ the King Parish

We chose Christ the King Parish, since it’s accessible (mid-way) to both people from the North (QC, etc.) and people from the South (Paranaque). We tried going there on a Monday, but we didn’t know that the parish office is closed on Mondays (so that’s a tip for you). The schedule of Baptisms are at 10 am and 4 pm, but we got the Special Solo Baptism with Priest. We paid Php 3,200 for everything, regardless of the number of ninongs and ninangs. For regular baptisms though, it’s at Php1,000 + Php 200 for the first 2 pairs of ninong and ninang (4 people) and Php 60 pesos per succeeding pair.

They require you to bring your own candles for the Godparents, but they will provide the big Baptismal candle. For the attire of the baby, they just advised us to bring a white bonnet that can be worn by the baby during the rites. Nonetheless, we bought a white attire for Zeeka.

Documents required before you can book a schedule would be your Marriage Certificate and the baby’s Birth Certificate. The Certificate of Live Birth from the Office of the Civil Registrar General will do.

Venue for Lunch: Valle Verde 5 Clubhouse

We rented the entire Valle Verde 5 Clubhouse space. The clubhouse can actually be divided into two rooms, but since we had 150 guests, we got both rooms. The rental for the place is at Php 8000 for residents and Php 9500 for non-residents. The place had low ceiling and the clubhouse isn’t that new anymore, but very convenient to go to. It also had a play area/ park just beside the clubhouse where the little ones can play. There are a lot of parking slots also which guests can use.

Invitation: Artique: Design | Web | Print Media

Of course, when I got to book both the Church and the Venue, I had the invites made. As mentioned in the previous post, I knew that I wanted pink and gray as the color motif for the party. I just had to figure out the central theme to make it ‘cuter’.

Zeeka’s room had sticker owls. This inspired me to go with the owl theme. Haha! We practically have chosen Zeeka’s favorite animal for her already. Since I wanted to go with the owl theme already, I asked my friend Mompreneur Lique (woman behind Honeybaby) of Artique to create the design of the invite.

An with her amazing talent, she came up with this!

The three owls in the invite are me, Ej and Zeeka! It was perfect. She created the perfect character and design that would tie the entire event together.

Candles: Ginger’s DIY Project using Washi Tapes from Paper Chic Studio

I’m the type of person who loves creating scrapbooks. I have a scrapbook of EJ and I during our first years together. Now, I am actually creating a scrapbook for Zeeka. So when I was planning Zeeka’s Baptism, I wanted to make some of the things by myself — one of which was the design for the candles.

Candles for the Baptismal Ceremony

Candles for the Baptismal Ceremony

At first, I thought of using candles, but then I remembered that my mompreneur friend, Cai of Paper Chic Studio was selling washi tapes. I loved the patterns and the designs of these washi tapes that I ordered 6 rolls of different designs. I used two of the designs to make the design of the candles.

Baptismal Gown: Klart Lim

I wanted the day to be special for my little Zeeka and so, I ordered a gown for her. It was the perfect white dress for my little one. I had it made by my friend designer Klart Lim. The thing about Klart is that she can work on a given budget. She will then tell you what she can and cannot do.

Here is the gown with the cute little bonnet that she made for Baby Zeeka.

The gown that Klart made was at Php 3500. I gave her that budget and she really made a beautiful white baptismal gown. I was so happy! Unfortunately though, my little one got my sensitive skin so she cried and cried during the ceremony since she didn’t like the feel of the beads on her skin. Haha! Lesson learned! At least, this would serve as a tip for you if you are buying or having a gown made for babies. Check the fabric and where the beads are placed.

I highly recommend Klart though! She’s a wonderful designer 🙂

Ceiling Decorations: JUST KIDDOS Hosting and Entertainment Services
Being in events has made me sensitive to even the smallest detail that can make an event more beautiful or grander. I wanted the venue to be more than it usually is. I wanted to decorate the place, but with limited budget, I thought of just decorating the ceiling.

It was a good call since the place looked nicer.

I commissioned the services of Just Kiddos Hosting and Entertainment services. We only communicated via email and they got my instructions perfectly. I told them that I wanted swags and balloons for the ceiling and that my color motif were shades of grey and pink. The total package for the ceiling decorations alone were at Php 5000.

Cake: Tazzy Cakes
One of the things that got the attention of a lot of people was Zeeka’s Cake. It was made by TAZZY CAKES. When I was scouting for suppliers, to be honest with you, I had a hard time choosing. What intrigued me and what helped me made up my mind was that Cat of Tazzy Cakes mentioned that she wanted to create a 3D owl. That made me curious, so I went with her.

This was the cake!

We specified the cake to be at 10″ in diameter, which was at Php 3500. The flavor of the cake was chocolate. During the party, no one wanted to touch it, but I finally gathered the strength to destroy it in order for us to eat it. It was yummy, too!

Giveaways for the guests: Baked Twinkles

For the guests who arrived, we ordered from Rice Krispy Treats and Cake Pops from Baked Twinkles. I got to know Baked Twinkles when I discovered and reviewed their goodies (I loved the Chocolate – Quezo De Bola Tuiles) for Manila Reviews: http://manilareviews.com/2010/11/baked-twinkles.html

Last year, I found out that they were also into creating cakes for celebrations and giveaways. I ordered their rice krispy treats, which were at Php 35 each. They had it designed with the letter Z in pink and periwinkle. I also ordered the cake pops in red velvet and chocolate. These cake pops wer also a hit during the party! Each were at Php 35. The cake pops were in pink with white drizzle and white with pink drizzle.

Remember that I showed you this picture?

Giveaways for Parents and Godparents: Papemelroti

I saw these really cute frames from Papemelroti and I knew that I wanted to get these as souvenirs for the parents and godparents.

Giveaways for Parents and Godparents

Giveaways for Parents and Godparents

To make it more special, I placed different pictures of Zeeka inside the frame. 😉 Zeeka’s name and the details of her baptism were engraved in the outer portion of the frame. The color also matched the theme of the celebration.

The frames came in these boxes. These boxes are ordered separately.

Souvenirs for Ninongs and Ninangs and the Parents

I then sealed each box with washi tapes and used the stickers from the extra invites to seal the plastic.

Papemelroti has really unique giveaways and souvenirs that you may want to check out! Theyrespond really fast. You have to pick up the items from their main branch though in Quezon City.

Photographer: Pau Bengero Fotography

Oops, I almost forgot! The most important part of this celebration is the “picture taking” part! We all need good pictures to remember joyful occasions like these. It was fortunate that I got to meet Pau Bengero (who also covered my sister-in-law’s little Noah’s baptism).

Pau and Van (Pau’s wife) were very professional. They were there on time. Van was also good with kids. She was even singing to Zeeka to keep her calm.

Finally! I finally got to buy CDs for Zeeka. I’ve long been searching for a CD that contains Nursery Rhymes for her to listen to in the morning and in the afternoon. I finally found one at Odyssey in market market.

Nursery Rhyme CDs

Nursery Rhymes

I actually bought four CDs. I also got her a CD with Filipino songs and two other CDs filled with classical music.

Nursery Rhyme CD: songs

Nursery Rhymes CD: songs

Zeeka loves music. Every time I feed her, she calms down each time I sing Rock-a-bye baby. For those who don’t remember the lyrics, here it is.

Rock-a-bye baby, in the treetop
When the wind blows, the cradle will rock
When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall
And down will come baby, cradle and all
Baby is drowsing, cozy and fair
Mother sits near, in her rocking chair
Forward and back, the cradle she swings
And though baby sleeps, he hears what she sings

From the high rooftops, down to the sea
No one’s as dear, as baby to me
Wee little fingers, eyes wide and bright
Now sound asleep, until morning light.

I actually didn’t know that there were words after “And down will come baby, cradle and all”.  My mom told me, that when I was little, I used to know all of the words of these nursery rhymes. I wonder if Baby Zeeka would be like me?

What do sing to your baby? What nursery rhymes does she react to positively?

Oh, by the way, for those looking for a CD player like this (EJ and I had to buy this for her room), you can go to SM appliance. We got this Philips CD player. It was less than Php 2500. This model also comes in different colors. We wanted the green one to have it match Zeeka’s room, but the store didn’t have stock. We got the silver one instead.

Hope this helps first time parents who are looking for CDs and CD players 🙂

Love lots,

It’s Zeeka’s Baptism today! I’m so excited. I’ve been preparing for her baptism, since before she was born. Today, i’ll be sharing with you some tips on preparing for your son’s or daughter’s baptism.

Tips for Preparing for Your Child’s Baptism:

1) Process your Child’s Certificate of Live Birth

First of all, even if you are so ready to start booking suppliers after your child is born, you still have to wait for the Certificate of Live Birth from the Office of the Civil Registrar General. You will need this to book the church. In Asian Hospital, they help you send all the requirements to the civil registry office. I’m not sure about the other hospitals. I got the Certificate of Live Birth of Zeeka two weeks after she was born.

2) Prepare your guest list
To give you an idea of which venue you would have to reserve, try to list down the names of all your guests. EJ and I came up with a list of 150 people. We decided on getting a big enough village clubhouse that would accommodate all these people. If you plan on having an intimate and a small gathering, you can reserve a function room of a restaurant.

3) Fix and Follow a Set Budget
Determine how much would you like to spend for each. Your budget really depends on what you want to prioritize. Although, in most cases, the top priority is the food that you will have to serve guests.

To give you an idea, this is our breakdown in percentages:
Caterer: 60%
Giveaways: 8%
Decorations: 7%
Church: 5%
Venue: 5%
Photographer: 5%
Baptismal Gown: 4%
Cake: 4%
Invitations: 1%
Candles and Washi Tapes: 1%

4) Look for Suppliers
When looking for suppliers, have a theme in mind. Your theme may just be a color theme or a specific theme. In our case, our color motif was pinks and grays.

Color Motif for Zeeka's Baptism

Color Motif for Zeeka’s Baptism

We also wanted to have a cute character, so we chose an owl. We had our design revolve around the invitation that our friend, Lique, made for Zeeka. The invitation was what I showed the cake supplier, etc.

Be sure though that you don’t go over your budget. If you do go overboard for a certain cost component, see to it that you save up on the other expenses.

5) JDIY — Just do it yourself!
I know a lot of moms now are very hands-on when it comes to preparing for their children’s parties. Doing it yourself saves a lot of money and you actually, get what you want and how you envisioned something right away (since you yourself are on top of it all).

For Zeeka’s baptism, I bought wash tapes from a mompreneur, Cai from Paper Chic Studio.

6. Don’t YOU forget to prepare, too!
After giving birth, I feel too lazy to fix myself. It’s true that sometimes you forget even to brush your hair in the morning as you hurriedly get up to feed your baby. For the baptism of your child though, do not forget to prepare, too. Prepare so that you won’t regret it when you look at your family pictures years from now.

For this occasion, I bought this pretty dress from Mommy Matters. I had to look for a pink nursing dress. Ang hirap pala! (It was hard!) There are a limited number of brands that you can choose from if you want to buy nursing wear.

Mommy's Dress!

Mommy’s Dress!

I had to buy a nursing dress, since I’m still breastfeeding Baby Z. Also, I am now building my supply of breast milk for tomorrow. She’s normally fussy when she’s hungry, so we plan to bring extra milk just in case. 🙂

Hope all these tips help. I’ll be posting the complete list of suppliers and pictures of Zeeka’s baptism next week!

Have a happy weekend!

Love lots,

Mommy Ginger

As more and more diversions are created for children to engage in, how can we help in making sure a child gets the best kind of learning at his or her most crucial stages? Kids nowadays are spending less and less time outdoors, having been exposed to gadgets and other forms of technology even as infants. But recent studies show that children, especially those aged 3 and below, who play outdoors regularly grow up happier, healthier, and stronger!

Since 2010, Baby Blast has spread awareness that enjoyable, unforced learning, as well as hands-on play and parent-child bonding during the age of 0-3 years is critical in laying down the foundation for the child’s future learning and holistic development. Every year, attendance to the event grows in number, as more families enjoy the fun activities and learn from the featured topics.

Outbox Media Production Agency, in cooperation with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Philippine Pediatric Society (PPS), once again celebrated the wonder of life at its early stages! EHS advocates, teachers, experts and parents together with their kids, gathered last April 14, 2013, from 10am-8pm at the Trinoma Activity Center for “Baby Blast Year 4: Discover, Create, Imagine and Explore!” a one-day event highlighting the importance of early childhood education.

This year’s event was hosted by Toni Aquino of DZMM, Jackie Go of gojackiego.com, pre-school teacher and TV host, Nikki Veron Cruz, celebrity moms Snooky Serna and Jenny Miller, sportscaster Anthony Suntay and journalist Peach Mascarinas, together with the tandem of Anthony and Rossel Taberna. Performances and messages of support for early education were also given by Gail Blanco, Paolo Santos, Patricia Bermudez-Hizon and Tintin Bersola-Babao.

Anthony Suntay (1)

DILIMAN TAEKWONDO (1)
The program was opened by a dance number from talented child singer Pauline Agupitan, together with the Neutron Acrobats and OBM Dancers.

This year’s program highlighted the importance of allowing babies and kids to experience the outdoors and engage in physical activities that can benefit their social, mental, physical and emotional development, given today’s tendency to merely rely on gadgets and technology to keep kids busy.

There were parenting and health talks led by experts and medical practitioners, like Ms. Glenda Derla, Child Welfare Specialist from the DSWD and Dra. Cynthia Cuayo-Juico of the PPS – School Health Committee.

Echo Store owner, Sharon Chua, shared an interesting topic on being a “green mom” or “eco mom”, discussing how kids can become more environmentally conscious and giving a recycling demo called “From Trash to Toys”.

Life coach Ms. Maricel Moreno-Laraya also gave a talk for parents on “How To Keep A Loving Relationship With Your Partner.” Essential Newborn Care was also tackled by the Consultant of the MMC and CSMC Pediatrics Department, Dra. Lourraine Co, MD, FPPS.

A revival of traditional Filipino outdoor games or “Palarong Pinoy” was also dicussed and demonstrated by TV Host Patty Nuguid-Santos of Buhay Pinoy, promoting the benefits of fun play and interaction for young kids.

On-ground areas like the World of Discovery, Beyond your Imagination, Baby Explorers and Creativity Corner gave kids the chance to play and interact with other kids, browse through books, play with toys, draw with art materials, and get hands-on with the educational gadgets and activities available today.

Contests for the whole family were held before the event, and winners were awarded during the program. Baby Magazine held the “Brilliant Babies Video Contest” where parents sent videos of their babies showing advanced development. The winning entry received a 1-year subscription from Baby Magazine, along with other prizes.

The “We Love the Outdoors Family Contest” gave families a chance to submit their best photo doing a fun, outdoor activity. The winning entry won a family staycation package at the Waterfront Manila Pavilion. Other contests held were the “Design My T-Shirt” art contest where kids submitted their interpretation of this year’s Baby Blast theme. The winning entry became the official Baby Blast event t-shirt design and received art materials and other prizes. For the moms and dads, The Blounge Salon also raffled off a Full Pampering package to give parents a well-deserved treat.
Both kids and parents also joined fun contests from Bye Bye Fever, Rite Med, Refresh Big Sip, Regent, Ferna, Lock & Lock, Bibbo Hotdog, Bounty Fresh, Uratex, Osihi, and Magnolia Frozen Delights. Lots of prizes were given away!

The event’s official print partner, Baby Magazine, also held a Search for the Cutest Babies attending the event. Babies were awarded at various times during the program, and all selected babies will be featured in the magazine’s next issue.

Pre-schools like Dynamic Recall, Playlab, LinxProvi8, H.A.N.D.S. of Children, Filway Marketing, and First Robotics also presented their EHS Programs for parents who are looking for schools to enroll their kids for the summer or for the next school year.

There were also mascot appearances by Ainon Baby, Bibbo Hotdogs, Robby Rabbit, and TJ Hotdogs, much to the kids’ delight!

Cool science experiments by Mad Science captivated the kids in the audience! Diliman Prep School also had their taekwondo team onstage to demonstrate a routine. Self-defense techniques to stop bullying were also presented by International Krav Maga Federation (IKMF).

Free face painting and kiddie hairstyling was also made available to the event participants courtesy of Outbox Media. Booths and other fun activities wowed everyone, and exciting freebies and loot bags were also given away. It was truly a great day for the whole family!

To continue spreading this advocacy, an annual Outreach Program is held a week after the Baby Blast event in Trinoma Activity Center, at a barangay in cooperation with the DSWD and DepEd. This year, the outreach program was held in Brgy. Bagong Pag-asa, Quezon City where parents and kids happily participated in the different games, learning segments, fun activities and even mascot appearances brought in by friends from Diliman Prep School, Robby Rabbit and Jollibee. Dr. De Jesus of the Department of Education and Ms. Jacelyn Paguio of the DSWD also graced the occasion. Gift packs were also given to the participants with lots of freebies from Jollibee, Robby Rabbit, Unilever, RiteMed, Magnolia, Universal Robina Corp., Big Sip, Jack n’ Jill, Bounty Fresh and Regent Foods Corp.

Baby Blast is an annual event that aims to enlighten parents that enjoyable, unforced learning, as well as hands-on play and parent-child bonding at an early age is the key to an intelligent, well-rounded and well-mannered individuals. See you again next year for another round of Fun Learning!

This event was made possible by Purefoods Crispy Chicken Burger, Purefoods Crispy And Juicy Drummets, Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdogs, Magnolia Frozen Delights, Bounty Fresh Chicken, Regent Foods Corporation, Refresh Big Sip “Big Sip Sarap For Big Thirst”, Jack N’ Jill Candies, Ritemed, Waterfront Manila Pavilion Hotel, Bibbo Cheesedog, Ferna Hotcakes, Bye-Bye Fever, Uratex Foam, Robby Rabbit, Ainon Babies, Lock And Lock, Oishi Choco Flakes, Unilever, New San Jose Builders, Links Provi8, Ahavia Spa, Transfer It, I Clickz Photo Booth, Fax, Parcel And Print, 18 Days Coffee Roaster, Dental First, Guard Protect, The Blounge Hi Tech Salon, and Tunying’s Sarap Tinapay To The Max.
