Early this year, my good friend and business partner, Martine de Luna, asked me to be part of her team for MakeitBlissful.com. She told me about her plans of changing her website, DaintyMom.com and re-branding it into this site where women could share stories of BLISS. This group of ladies that she asked would be her ‘bliss-makers’, constantly highlighting the little memorable things that make one’s life happier. These are the things that make our ordinary lives extra-ordinary.

Well, when she ‘recruited’ me (haha! sounds like a sorority!), I immediately said yes and it was not because I gave in to peer pressure. Nor was it because Martine was a friend and I couldn’t say ‘no’. Martine has this gift of sharing stories and she does it in a way that is so inspiring! At that time, I was thinking of the goal of helping people find bliss, even in their professional, entrepreneurial and work life. As technical and as straight-forward as that aspect of life may seem, we could always find BLISS there. My main mission in life is really to help entrepreneurs make turn their dreams into reality and I knew that if I joined Martine’s team, we could help all of these people (aspiring entrepreneurs, work at home individuals and even office workers and professionals) live their lives to the fullest.

Fast forward to today, it has almost been one year and I’m very happy for Martine and of course, the rest of the team for what we have accomplished. MakeitBlissful.com is such an inspiring site and I love reading the articles there of my fellow Blissmakers.

Recently, Martine threw a party called the Bliss Makerie 2014 for all of her clients, sponsors, collaborators, partners and fellow bliss-makers. It was held at Scarsdale at S&R Shaw Boulevard. The invite was so ‘Martine’ and so blissful. She told us to come in rustic chic attire. I wish you could have seen the behind the scenes conversation of the MakeitBlissful.com team. Everyone was scrambling and asking Martine for pegs. We all wanted to come and look our best for the event. That was how excited we were (haha! Gigil for parties!).

When I arrived, I was so amazed at how Constance Event Styling decorated the place. It definitely exuded BLISS and dainty-ness.

The afternoon was just an informal gathering. It was nice to meet other blissmakers! It was nice catching up with friends that I haven’t seen for the longest time. It was awesome to discuss collaborations and possible tie-ups for 2015 with people I have just met. It was great seeing the people who I follow online and actually meet them finally in person.

It was a simple yet lovely affair. We also had a croughnut contest and the winner took home a trip to Taal Vista! I created my own croughnut and called it Ginger Spice! haha! It was a croughnut topped with dark chocolate with Baileys. It also had caramel popcorn with almonds on top. This was my creation.

The BLISSMAKERS!

The BLISSMAKERS!

I remember looking through photo albums kept at my grandmother’s house (as in tons of them). They contained pictures of my childhood and even pictures of my parents and aunts and uncles during their younger years. I loved looking at those pictures, even if for most of them, I wasn’t born yet. I loved looking at them because it gave me a sense of how my parents and relatives were when they were younger. I also showed me pictures of when I was still a baby. Obviously I couldn’t remember each moment, but looking at these pictures made me FEEL the love that I was showered with. This is why we, as a family, had Louie Arcilla take photos of our family.

When I first met Louie and when I told him that we were game to do a family photo shoot, I was afraid to tell him that I wasn’t really the type who would pose in front of the camera. Well, my husband and I are like that. We hate posing. We both feel awkward. We actually decided to have a family shoot because we wanted our daughter to have pictures that she could browse through when she was older. I want her to have the same opportunity and experience of looking through old photos and photos of herself when she was younger.

So fast forward to the day of the shoot, Louie came in at exactly 2:00 PM as we discussed. It was a gloomy day and it was drizzling, so I immediately thought that I was super unlucky. We didn’t have a good lighting source. We couldn’t go out. Also, when Louie arrived, Zeeka was sleeping, so we had to wait for her to wake up. We talked first about his business and brand Louie Arcilla Life+Style Photography. I always felt his passion for his craft. The thing about Louie is that when you talk to him, he is very down to earth and easy to talk to. It’s as if you have been talking to a friend whom you have known for for years. That’s why I think Zeeka loved him immediately.

Zeeka would normally go into tantrums and would squeal and scream when a ‘new and unfamiliar’ person would carry her. But not with Louie! Zeeka just met him that day and after the shoot, she kept on saying ‘Louie… Louie’. She even allowed him to carry her. The shoot went well and you know why? Louie didn’t ask us to pose. He just made us do normal things — things that we would do on a daily basis like sit on the couch, carry Zeeka, play with Zeeka, talk to Zeeka, etc. We didn’t have to pose! Thank, God! Zeeka was the one you posed for us. Haha!

But it was all so natural and light. What I was worried about though was if the the pictures would come out clear. I hated that it was such a gloomy day. But guess, what?! When I got the pictures from Louie, I was blown away. Here are some of the pictures…

If a company reaches its 104th birthday, this is an indication that they are a pretty strong company! We, entrepreneurs, know that it’s very hard to keep business afloat for that long! Hey, that’s more than one lifetime! When I heard that Insular Life was celebrating their birthday and they invited me to celebrate it, I was more than happy to join them. I know PR and advertising people know this about me. I am so lazy to go to events, but for this particular event (which was in Alabang, by the way), I really had to show my appreciation to Insular Life for all the support that they have given me. When I got there, there were hundreds of Clients also who were there and who were very appreciative for all the help that this company has extended each one of us.

Speaking of being appreciative, Insular Life is offering an early Christmas promo to its policyholders with its Magandang Araw ng Kapaskuhan sa Insular Life – CASHandog 2014 campaign. The campaign is open to all of their policyowners with at least one in-force permanent policy (except i-Shield) and their designated insureds and beneficiaries who have been confirmed by the policyowners. The promo will run from October 25, 2014 to January 22, 2015. In the January 23, 2015 draw, they will draw 1 grand prize winner of Php 104,000 and 3 winners of iPhone units.

To know more about the campaign, policyowners, insureds and beneficiaries may call Insular Life at 876-1-800 for Metro Manila and 1-800-10-INSULAR toll free for provincial areas or like Insular Life on Facebook (CLICK HERE).

Aside from this, Insular Life is also supporting Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) for the construction of a classroom building in San Fernando Central Elementary School in Tacloban, Leyte. This school has one of the biggest populations in the area, fitting 2,940 students in 35 classrooms. This December, the project of building the school will start.

Although I am not employed with them, I feel so lucky to be part of the Insular family. Cheers to more years of stability and uplifting the lives of the Filipino people. Magandang araw, everyone!

Technology is an important part on my life. Although I don’t watch TV at all (this is really true!), my laptop, mobile phone, earphones and speakers are my most treasured material possessions. I’m sure you get why my laptop and phone is important, but my earphones and speakers are important, too, because…

1) I listen to music from Spotify while working. Music relaxes me.
2) I listen to music or Podcasts while traveling.
3) I need my speakers because I normally watch You Tube videos and downloads using my computer.

Yes, I’m that type of person. Haha! So recently, I was thrilled to attend the Harman and JBL event. I know i’m not a tech blogger and gadget specs are not part of my vocabulary, but I really wanted to see the products of Harman and JBL and see how the products stand out from the others in terms of function, design and quality of sound. For those who are not yet familiar with the brand, HARMAN International Industries, Incorporated is the award-winning maker of outstanding audio and entertainment solutions. Harman has won 116 awards for 70 unique products from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), producer of the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), for its wireless sound systems that make use of Bluetooth and Near Field Communications (NFC) technology for just the past two years — how amazing is that!

“HARMAN recognizes the importance of providing stylish products that deliver not only high-quality technology, but also a sense of connectedness and we are very proud to introduce these new products to the Philippine market”, says Lauro Secreto, representative from Harman International Singapore.

“Applying the concept of creating products designed to enhance everyday life, these wireless systems are perfect for those who value constant connections not only to music, but also to friends, family and the world around them,” said Secreto.

I tried out and listened to the sound of the Harman Kardon Products and the sound quality was superb. I love the design, too. I’m just scared that if I purchase the ones seen above, my daughter who loves throwing things around might break these. She’s like me — we have this thing that with whatever gadget we touch, it suddenly gives up on us (without meaning to break it).

From all the products from Harman Kardon, I love this. This is the Harman Soho Wireless Headphones. I love it’s really classy and sleek design. What’s so cool about it is that you can change from one song to another by swiping the leather cover of your ear.

For JBL, my favorite product is this. This is the JBL Reflect. It can be connected via bluetooth, which I love because there is less wiring. I hate wires cause when I keep it inside my bag, with a thousand things, it gets all tangled up. It’s called reflect since the wiring has a reflector. It’s perfect for those who love to go jogging at night.

I recently got the chance to attend a Bento Making Class conducted by the Bento Mommas and which was sponsored by Cheez Whiz. I recently developed this love for making bento boxes. I love it because it brings out my creative side, plus, you don’t have to cook anything (I can just put together a Cheez Whiz sandwich all the time) and if you do, you can have someone cook it for you and you just need to creatively combine all the ingredients together. I really don’t know how to cook, but I promise that I will find the time when my daughter’s a bit older and if I really find the need to learn.

I love bento making because I get to use all of these colourful materials and ingredients. For the class, we had to make two bento boxes. One bento was a snack bento box, while the other one was a rice bento box for lunch. We started with creating the snack bento box with Cheez Whiz as the star.

We had to create our very own Snowman! It was the perfect theme for the Holidays. First off, we had to cut four pieces of circles from the white Gardenia bread that we were given. These were the materials / ingredients that we were going to use for the body of the snowman. Next, we had to spread the new variant of Cheez Whiz, which was the Cheez Whiz Milky Delight flavour. It’s the perfect blend of Sweet Milk and Mild Cheese. I love its sweet taste!

After creating the two mini circle sandwiches, we had to place them inside the container to create the snowman. After which, we had to decorate it with raisins, sour candy and chocolate. Check out my little unfinished snowman. The pieces were “glued” to the bread using Cheez Whiz.

My Bento Box Cheez Whiz Creation!

My Bento Box Cheez Whiz Creation!

The next bento box that we made was a rice bento box. I loved this since we made our own Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer! First of all, what we did was we got a Glad sandwich bag and scooped one cup into the bag. We formed the head of Rudolf and we placed in inside the container. We had to check on the size of the scoop of the rice by closing the container. We had to make sure that we had enough room to still place the nose, eyes, etc. without destroying the head.

2014-11-16 15.23.00

Next we cut a heart using the bread and placed it at the middle of the rice, facing downwards. For the eyes, we used sliced cheese and nori and for the nose, we used tomatoes. For the antlers, we used pretzels. To stick all of these in place, we had to use Cheez Whiz Milky Delight again as our glue.

Again, for the bento box to keep its form, we need to fill up the box so the components won’t move. We placed chicken on the side and green apple again on the other end. We used broccoli to fill up the other parts. As you can see, the box is a balanced meal with food from the grow, glow and go food groups! This is my finished product.
