Launching GTV — oh yeah!

That isn’t a great title for this post… Haha! Who places ‘oh yeah’ in a title of an article? I used to question a lot of things too, especially those done outside of rules that we know — rules that we have adhered to for the longest time. And then, I realized that sometimes, I would just follow because I was scared of being different. If I did it this way, people might think I was crazy. If I did things that way instead, people might think that I’m a bit too much (either a non-conformist rebel or a fame-hungry biatch). I realized that a lot of things that I did was just so as to conform and to be exactly like the others. By doing this, I panicked because I wasn’t achieving anything — I wasn’t happy, I wasn’t moving at the pace I wanted, and most importantly, my goal of helping 500 Filipino entrepreneurs start their own businesses by 2020 was becoming unattainable. I needed to move fast.

Why do I want to achieve this number?
If we, the Philippines, want to stay competitive, especially with the ASEAN Integration, we need to show the world that our economy is improving. The best way to help, in our own little way, is to create jobs for the unemployed. Jobs can be made if businesses succeed. If I can help aspiring entrepreneurs create 500 new businesses by 2020, given a conservative figure of 5 people per company, that will generate 2,500 jobs. I think that’s not bad for my own goal.

Why care so much?
If my daughter will live in a generation where the parents of these children have secured their children’s futures financially, and have concentrated on bringing up their children to be morally upright, independent, confident, happy and caring individuals, I will be happy. If i can help some people from our generation (probably the parentsof these batchmates of my daughter) achieve their entrepreneurial dreams, then maybe the future will be brighter. There is so much going on in the world (and country) today — violence, hunger, hatred that I think the least I could do is concentrate on things that would be of service to the country and the world even.

GTV Love the Leap

Launch of GTV
Fear is useless. That’s what I kept on telling myself during the past months of busily preparing for the launch of this YouTube Channel called GTV: Love the Leap. I created GTV with the purpose of trying to reach more aspiring entrepreneurs and those who want to start their own businesses all around the globe. I have been creating offline workshops, but I wanted to do so much more. I then thought that YouTube would be a good platform which I could use to reach more Filipinos all over the world. Each episode would deal with specific topics like digital marketing, branding, payment channels, etc. For each episode, it would either be me talking about my own experiences or I might have a guest/s that will contribute and share their ideas.

My Personal Challenges
I’m not really comfortable at speaking in front of the camera. I really admire how the likes of my idols Marie Forleo, Ramit Sethi, etc. do it. The shoot for the teaser, where I didn’t have to speak, was pretty easy. What was really difficult was the first day of the shoot for the episodes. Oh my! I had so many takes! I really appreciate my production team headed by my good friend, April Reyles (btw, she is a really really good producer — hire her!) and Joshua Reyles (and of course with my dear husband, Ej) because without them, I couldn’t have pulled this off. They were very professional and very patient with me. They understood that I wasn’t used to this kind of a thing. Oh my gosh! I really never knew that speaking in front of the camera as compared to speaking in a conference would be more difficult!

Can you feel the stress building up in this picture? haha!

Personal Branding: Is it that Important?

The world that we live in has become so competitive. People compete for jobs. Products compete for attention. Advertisements are competing for attention from viewers, too. In the world of freelancing and solopreneurs, like myself, you really need to develop a good brand to stand out from the rest. That’s how Personal Branding comes in.

Why is Personal Branding important based on my experience? As you think about what brand you want for yourself, it helps you understand yourself better and it helps you create clearer goals for yourself and for your endeavor. I remember when we started developing our mobile applications, we all wanted to get into different things which were a little bit related to why we developed our start-up business. Some ideas though were really far from what we initially talked about so we had to move away from that. With knowing what your personal brand is, you can ditch those irrelevant ideas and concentrate on the things that WILL MATTER for your brand.

The next importance of personal branding is that you establish your presence in that space that you want to be know in. Without a good brand for yourself as a freelancer or solopreneur, you will just be one of the other players in that field. Obviously, if you stand out and are different from the rest, there will be that certain group of clients who will particularly want your service. This means that you can earn more.

I still have a lot to say about Personal Branding so I invite you to join me at the Personal Branding Workshop for Freelancers and Solopreneurs on April 18, 25 and May 2.

Is it possible for a WAHM to get rich?

Are we talking about rich in love and happiness? haha! If that’s it then, raise the roof! AMEN!  We Work-at-Home-Moms (WAHMs) are rich in love and happiness. But for this particular post, I’ll be talking about financial wealth. We can all get rich, WAHMS!

I have been a work at home mom / entrepreneur since October 2012 and those who have been reading my blog would know about this journey. And I think a lot of you would see that every weekend (and weekdays, though just from my home), I work my ass off to have great and successful workshops — workshops that are painstakingly prepared by my awesome team, backed up by great sponsors and attended by beautiful people who prioritize learning.

Success didn’t come easy and until now, it’s just creeping in slowly, but I am proud that I know that I will have enough for Zeeka’s college tuition fee already. I am proud to say that even if we just live a simple life, we have enough to make us happy. We have enough to not to worry about the future. Of course, there are still things that we are saving up for and things that we still wish we could have, but we know that we are slowly getting there.

My husband is employed while I work on our business. We are simple folks with simple dreams. A lot of the couples that I meet are quite like us in many ways — very practical. We don’t splurge on things. A lot of the financial advice that I got early on was really by listening to my good friend, Fitz Villafuerte. I used to sit in a lot during his Ready to Be rich workshops with Manila Workshops and I really learned a lot.

I highly suggest that you attend his workshop on April 18 which is entitled Get Rich, WAHM: Work at Home and Achieve Wealth. This will be from 10AM to 4PM at O2 Space – Unit 330 Milelong Building, Amorsolo St., Bgy. Pio del Pilar, Makati City.

GetRichWAHM3-610x1024

Fitz Gerard Villafuerte, RFP is a civil engineer who decided to quit the corporate world in 2003 to pursue entrepreneurship. In 2014, he became a registered financial planner.

His blog, entitled, Ready To Be Rich, has already received several recognitions including the Best Business and Finance Blog at the Philippine Blog Awards for two years in a row. Moreover, an international finance publication, Wise Bread, has likewise ranked his website as among the Top 100 Personal Finance blogs in the world. Fitz has also been recognized by Moneysense Magazine as among the top 12 most influential people in Personal Finance in the Philippines.

Learning Fee is at:
Regular rate: Php 2500
Early bird rate: Php 1800 (until April 8,2015)
Group rate: Php 4500 for a group of three

Participants will get a 2-months premium Raket account from raket.ph! 🙂

New Pampers Baby Dry Launch Event

We have gotten to an era where sleep has become a precious commodity. One of my goals in my list is to sleep at least 8 hours a day. People from ages ago would have laughed at this. Imagine having enough sleep as a goal? This explains why people are more stressed and unhealthy. For babies, there are studies (Spruyt et al, 2008; Scher et al, 1992) that show that for babies who sleep better, they are happier and appear more positive about interacting and concentrating. They are more alert, playful and friendly. We know that sleep is important for a baby’s social and cognitive development, therefore we need to make baby’s sleep as sound and relaxing as possible.

I remember when my daughter was a baby, we used to play relaxing classical music all the time. I consider myself fortunate as she was the type of baby who got to sleep longer hours early on. I remember that when she was 6 months old, she would already get to sleep 8 hours straight and we would breastfeed before sleeping and the minute she would get up. I was really lucky!

The thing that wakes baby up oftentimes is if they are hungry or if they feel uncomfortable with their nappies. For my daughter’s diapers, we are currently using Pampers. We used to use another brand but we noticed that oftentimes, my daughter would get irritable and we realized that it was because her diaper was always full. When we changed to Pampers, we would not change her diapers as often anymore. We really noticed the difference. I actually now understand why Pampers is the World’s #1 diaper brand.

Love at First Sight

When I was invited to be one of the digital ambassadors of Pampers for this year, I did not hesitate. I immediately said YES, because I’m a believer. They invited us to a launch of a new product called the Pampers Baby Dry.

Decorations at Pampers Event

When I got there, the place was beautifully decorated. It was like attending my own baby shower again. I’m sure a lot of the mom attendees felt the same way. Imagine the surprise as we saw a picture of our own child in one of the tables! This is the picture of my daughter (proud mama!). These were souvenirs given to us by Pampers. Great job Oomph Styling and Fuentes Manila for creating such a magical ambiance.

When the program started, it was hosted by first time mom, Gelli Victor. She introduced the new ambassador for Pampers, which was the very lovely Andi Manzano – Reyes. Andi talked about her excitement as a first time mom and to give her support and all the expecting moms in the event, Pampers invited Dra. Concepcion Alfonso, a Pediatrician.

Unveiling of Pampers Baby Dry

What I love about the all-New Pampers Baby Dry is that it delivers up to 12 hours of skin dryness. Imagine not having to change your baby’s diaper for 12 hours! Love it! Your baby will get to sleep soundly and you don’t have to worry about checking her nappy every hour. This feature was actually demoed during the event. They asked us to pour water over Pampers Baby Dry and another brand of diaper, then asked us to use a paper towel to check which absorbs faster and stronger.

Comparison

As you can see, the other brand didn’t absorb the wetness. There was a wet area in the paper towel after we placed it on top of the diaper. Pampers Baby Dry still has that Magic Gel that locks in wetness better than other diapers.

Comparison 2

Also, New Pampers Baby Dry now also has STRETCHY TAPES that adapt to the baby’s shape and movements, which makes it more comfortable to wear.  See how long the tapes could stretch!

Stretchy

For those who are interested to buy the product, here is a guide depending on the weight of the baby.

NEW Pampers Sizing / Currently Wearing / Estimated Weight
1 / NB / Up to 5kg
2 / S / 3-8kg
3 / M / 6-11kg
4 / L / 9-14kg
5 / XL / 12-16kg
6 / XXL / 14+ kg
