Reality Check

Here I go again with random thoughts. There are just days like these that make you think. There are just moments like this that shake you and make you realize how off tangent your life is. I always try to be positive, but there are moments when you have to admit that life isn’t perfect and maybe things will never be perfect. Maybe there is no such thing as perfect.

Why do we strive for perfection? Why do we dream of a better life, a better job, a better business, a better marriage, a better figure, better health, a better bank account, etc.? Are these really things that we need to have or are we presented with a standard that we need to attain or at least fulfill? It gets so stressful sometimes. Sometimes, I wonder if people are really what they seem. I wonder if they are true or are just pretending to be something to someone to carry on the show. I wonder if anything in this world is real.

That brings me to the point of reality. What is REAL? Is something real when you see it? We see pictures of happy people on Instagram, Facebook and should we automatically think that they live happy lives? Is that real? If it’s something that you don’t see, such as love or sacrifice or friendship, isn’t that real, too? I just don’t think we’ll ever know if something is real, unless we really try to find out ourselves.

For friends and family, they know that I overthink things sometimes. I do think though that it’s good to do so at times. It makes me really check on myself. Sometimes, I feel tired, and now I know that it’s not only because of the multiple tasks that I have to do. It’s because I strive to be perfect in all aspects of my life. I strive to be the perfect wife to my husband. I strive to be the perfect mom for my daughter. I strive to be the perfect friend. I strive to be the perfect mentor. I strive to be the perfect boss. I strive to be the perfect Ginger. And today, It just hit me once again and I realized that all of these are just fantasies and that no one can be perfect. No one can be the best at everything.

Today, I looked at my daughter and I admire her. I admire her for the strength of character that she possesses. She’s very confident and she knows what she wants. Although she’s just two years old, I think she’ll be stronger than I am. I am thinking that I must be doing something right.

At least, I know that this is real.

FutureYou.ph: Helping you Get Ready for your Future!

I had a short discussion with one of my friends who is currently running a training program and he said that his course, which was engineering, didn’t have anything to do with his line of business. Another friend, who is currently a financial speaker, told me that his engineering degree didn’t have anything to do with what he is doing now. Surprisingly, a lot of my friends ended up in careers that are not related to their college degrees.

I went to a college that was near my house and I chose my course because early on, I knew I wanted to sell consumer products and handle brands (and be a brand manager). That part about choosing the school based on accessibility was probably a practical reason which most of us would consider, with the bad traffic and all. I was lucky that the same school offered a great marketing communications program. But what if I didn’t take marketing? Would I have been competently able to survive the corporate world as a brand manager?

During my time, we didn’t have the Internet to turn to for information. In order to learn more about colleges and universities, we only had the schools where our parents went to as reference and of course, feedback from other people.

There weren’t also a lot of jobs to choose from before. Unlike today, new jobs like digital marketing or digital engineers, virtual assistants, etc. (most of it are alien to us) have emerged and they require a different skillset, like fully understanding SEM, SEO or technical writing. I think that with all of these new jobs and skills requirements, teenagers should really use the Internet to their benefit. They need to be open to exploring and knowing more about different opportunities so they could very well land in a job that is a good match for them.

Making the huge decision on what career to pursue starts during middle school, and so, students need to be exposed to different options (career paths, industries and colleges to choose from) early on in order to help them make the informed career and education decisions.

Futureyou.ph

Lucky for them, there’s a new online tool that would help them on their decision-making process. Futureyou.ph provides a platform that these kids could use to check on the most appropriate career for them. They are also presented with a list of schools they could go to get the required certificate or degree. Futureyou.ph is not a recruitment site. It is a project of the Philippine Business for Education in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Philippines. By telling middle and high school students about Futureyou.ph, we are helping them plan and find a career that matches their skills, goals and interests. It’s a pretty cool site and very user friendly.

I was invited to join one of their school hops two weeks ago at Maria Asuncion Rodriguez Tinga High School and it was a great experience. I had a lot of different events that I could have gone to that day, but I decided to go to this one because I knew that these 50 students needed help in making informed decisions about their future. They don’t have access to the same opportunities and information that our kids have or that we have.

I got to interact with the grade 9 students and impart to them the importance of making informed career and education decisions. They were telling me how appreciative they were of us visiting them and telling them about the site since it made them realize that they needed to start thinking about their future now and that there is such a platform that makes the process so much easier for them.

I really hope that when my baby daughter grows up, Futureyou.ph will still be there to lend her support in choosing which career to pursue and which school to go to.

Let’s help the younger generation think about their future! Let’s tell them about Futureyou.ph! 🙂

Pampers gives Moms a Chance to Win Baby’s First Million

I was in a workshop called Insta-speak, where the participants are taught how to say things clearly and simply. One of the activities that we did was to read a children’s story with feelings. In this activity, I realized that one of the things that we, as adults, have taken for granted is the power of imagination. We have been so exposed to the hard realities of life that we think imagining things or dreaming of something big seems useless. Sayang lang ang oras!

Well, personally, I still love dreaming. There is nothing wrong with creating fantasies — with dreaming of a life that we wish we could have, for as long as we don’t over obsess about these dreams. As a mom, one of my ‘fantasies’ is to have a better life for my daughter. I want her to live a life that she wants without having to think of money as an issue. Obviously, I know that one of the tools that I need for my dream to come true is money. I don’t want to be a hypocrite; having funds would definitely make our lives easier. Given Php 1 Million, I know I could achieve and attain the dreams that we have for our daughter easier.

I will do anything for this little one!

I will do anything for this little one!

Guess what? Pampers can make baby’s firsts come true with a chance to win up to P1 million for baby’s first bank account! Yes, with Pampers Baby Dry, you don’t just give baby complete sleep with up to 12 hours of dryness, but you also get a chance to win up to Php 1 million and make your baby’s firsts come true! I don’t know about you, but I’m excited for this!

If you were given 1 Million Pesos, what would you do with it? Personally, this is what I would do with One Million Pesos.

– 50% of the money will go to a mutual fund that we have set up for our daughter. We all know that school tuition fees are so expensive nowadays, so this would really help a lot!

– 25% of the One Million will go a travel fund for Disneyland or for other places that she wants to see. One of the things that we want her to learn from is travelling. We want her to learn from the things that she sees and experiences. Mommy and Daddy will go with her, of course, since she is still young! Haha!

– 12% will go to to her tuition fee for when she starts going to school.

– 7% will go to a fund that she can access when she grows up. She can do anything with the money in that account.

– 5% will go to charity. Early on, we want to teach her to be a caring and kind-hearted individual.

I’m so excited, because joining this contest is so simple! Everyone can join!

Simply buy any Pampers Baby Dry Economy/Value pack/Low counts at participating stores nationwide and check to see if there’s a sticker indicating it is an entry in the promotion. There will be a WINNING TICKET for all the lucky moms out there and it could be a Gymboree GC worth P1,200 consolation prize, or the major prizes including P10,000 worth of bank savings, P50,000 worth of bank savings and a whopping Php 1 million.

Winners can contact Manpower for Advertising Services Agency Inc. at (+632) 335-3518 for instructions on how to claim the prize. Don’t forget to bring the winning ticket, 2 valid IDs, and the official receipt for purchase of Pampers Baby Dry during the redemption. For more details, please watch this video or visit the Pampers Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/PampersPh).

My baby uses Pampers Baby Dry and I can attest that she sleeps better and is more active. She loves exploring, nowadays, and I think Pampers really helps in making her feel comfortable. Pampers really helps babies achieve their firsts! I think it’s true what other moms say that Pampers Dry is the best and driest diaper in 10 years. I believe so, because i’ve seen it in action!

Smiling makes you a Winner

A few people can say that i’m quite that jumpy little bean in the morning. I’m always super hyper. Like two days ago, I got up at 6:45 am because I had dubbing at 8, a 9 am, 10:30, 2pm and a 7pm meeting. I just go through the day with a smile on my face, like i’m not stressed at all. I just believe that if you’re happy and you know it (clap your hands… Just kidding), show it because the world will feel you’re a winner and they’ll make you a winner.

I’m a winner! Say that, too, and you’ll be one, too! I’m a winner and what makes me win is my smile (kapal noh?) Haha! But kidding aside, you can do so much and accomplish so much with just smiling. I was reading this book of my friend, Justin Pinon entitled The Three Hit Combo and one of the things that he mentions that is important in influencing others is smiling. So taking off from Justin’s advice, I went to the dentist to have my teeth cleaned. Then after a week, I successfully convinced my husband to do the same.

I booked a schedule for him with Dra. Marion at the Winning Smiles Dental Clinic.

I booked with her because scheduling an appointment is very easy. You just have to go to http://www.winning-smiles.net/and just key in your information. I then received an email confirming my schedule the day after. And that was it!

We booked a schedule for my husband on a Saturday and we brought our little one. I really loved the ambiance. It was just like any dental clinic, but it had a certain ‘relaxing’ vibe. Oh, plus, the main color used for the place was purple (which is my favorite color) so I loved it even more!

Dra. Marion arrived just a few minutes after we arrived and she led us to the main part of the clinic. She was very nice and pleasant. We had a short conversation on why going to the dentist regularly is a must. Then she checked on my husband’s teeth and took some ‘before’ photos. We, my daughter and I, stayed in the room to watch Dra. clean my husband’s teeth. My daughter was watching each and every single thing. I was telling her how we should always brush our teeth to keep it clean and healthy.

After the session, Dra. Marion again took the ‘after’ shots. I asked my husband how the session was and he said that it was great! He said that he can now feel the ridges of his teeth, where one starts and one ends. Haha! Also, Dra. had gentle hands so it was a wonderful experience.

It’s really important that we set aside time to visit the dentist despite our busy schedule. With clean and healthy teeth, we feel more confident and ready to face the world. We will all feel like winners! Thanks, Dra. Marion! Smiling definitely makes you a winner!

Breastfeeding and New Born Care

August is National Breastfeeding Awareness month. I love that such a great loving act is given an entire month for people to focus on and to celebrate. For those without child, it may seem to be such a petty thing to celebrate but believe me, it is worth celebrating every single day of this month. When I was single, I used to think that I would just give my baby formula to save me the hassle and the time. I used to think that it was all about the type of woman you are. I always thought that breastfeeding was only for the domesticated moms. But when I attended classes before, I truly saw its value and benefits. I think every mom should try to understand how breastfeeding works and why it is important.

On August 22, 2015, Manila Workshops, in partnership with The Parenting Emporium, is holding a rerun of the lecture and demonstration about breastfeeding and newborn care.
