Carsoncrest International School

There are two things that I consider before sending my child to a school. The first one is the method of teaching. It has to be aligned with my objective of teaching my child through play (since she’s still young) and teaching her using actual things  that she will experience in her daily life. The second one is if it takes into consideration the flexibility that a school should have, and adjust to what a child needs. Every child is different, so you can’t really treat all of them the same way.

Oh, I have one more thing that I consider and that’s proximity.

For those who are in Makati, I will highly recommend this school that we visited. It’s a preschool in Makati. It’s called Carsoncrest International School, a franchisee of Clarenter Education, U.S. and is authorized to offer the International Preschool Curriculum (IPC). At the moment, they are offering the following programs:

  • International Toddler (2 years old) Program
  • International Nursery (3 years old) Program
  • International Prekinder (4 years old) Program
  • International Kinder (5 years old) Program – Starts next year (2019) This is that start establishing the K-to-12 department

Check out our visit to Carsoncrest International School, a preschool in Makati!

What is IPC or the International Preschool Curriculum?

The International Preschool Curriculum embodies the best in academic research and practices. It is aligned to meet or exceed the standards of all major education systems making it the most internationally accepted early childhood education curriculum in the world. From Singapore Math to UK Literacy, the IPC has had to meet some of the most stringent standards to be truly international (for more information visit www.ipc.education).

What I like about the International Preschool Curriculum or IPC is that Carsoncrest International School’s students will be exposed to the following:

  • Language Arts
  • Motor Skills
  • Sciences
  • Creative Arts
  • Numeracy
  • Socio-Emotional

If you want to check out this school, there will be available summer classes at Carsoncrest International school in cooperation with Manila Workshops. This will be posted in the events page (announcement will be in a few days): http://manilaworkshops.com/events

How GCredit Works

I’d like to live a cashless life. Seriously, I mentioned to my husband last month that I will only use GCASH or PayPal for any transactions or my UnionBank EON (this is not a sponsored post, btw). But seriously! I hate bringing cash, and I think we will be able to live our lives without cash. I want to challenge myself and I think I will be able to survive a week without cash. I will start tomorrow and I hope you can follow my journey starting tomorrow! I will document it via my Facebook (http://fb.com/mommyginger) and Instagram stories (http://instagram.com/gingerarboleda)

Today though, I’ll be sharing with you this new feature of GCASH (again, this isn’t a sponsored post). Just found cool that they have this!

As you may know, GCASH is a produce under a company called Mynt. Aside from GCASH, Fuse lending (a micro-lending company) is under Mynt. So these two basically combined forces to launch GCredit. GCredit is a credit limit available on the GCASH app which may be used for your payments and purchases. Example, after scanning  the QR codes of your favorite merchant, the app will ask you if you will pay via your GCASH money or GCredit.

You will need to activate your GCredit first and this “activation” is available when you use your GCASH app frequently for purchasing, loading and paying bills.

Now, how do you compute for interest. It’s very straight forward: [amount borrowed x 5% interest rate x (# of days borrowed / 30 days)].

You’re credit limit can be increased based on frequency and amount of transactions that you make. Credit limit starts at Php 1000 and can increase to Php 30,000.

Check out this feature and let me know your thoughts on this! 🙂

Your Kids are Smart. Habits can be Picked up.

When Zeeka was young, she would scream and literally punch and hit anyone who would try to pin her down on a dentist’s chair. When the dentist would check her teeth, I would have to sit on the chair myself, put her on my lap, hug her, and lie down while the dentist cleans her teeth up. For hand washing though, I never had a problem with that. I never had any concerns or stressful moments, and it was all because of Safeguard.

What caused the difference? I realized that it was so easy for me to get Zeeka to ALWAYS wash her hands because her first experience with hand washing was FUN. Sharing with you this video that I posted two years ago… YES! I can’t believe that this was two years ago!

Her first memories of washing her hands by herself was this. We always sang this catchy tune together from Safeguard. Every time she washes her hands, it’s either the ABC song or the “hugas hugas ating kamay” song. With kids, I realized, too, that it’s not only about the song, but it was because you were there with them.

Kids are smart. They pick up on things fast and they emulate you (parents), because they love you and they want to try out things that you do. In our household, every one washes their hands with Safeguard because of the 24 protection and superior skin germ protection (removes 99% of germs including HANGINfection). If you mention these benefits, most likely, kids will not care. So what we can do is make it fun for them. Here is a video (which used to be a private one), which I’d like to share. It’s video where Zeeka and I role play and pretend that we’re fighting off Kuya Germ (daddy!). LOL!

If you want your kids to take on a habit, I highly suggest that you make it fun for them. Now Zeeka knows more about germs than most of the kids out there. Other ways that you can teach kids about proper hand washing is to play with bubbles, create a game between siblings, or you can follow our role playing stint!

Our daughter washes her hands even without being told. She has formed the habit, and she hasn’t gotten sick for the longest time!

So taking on from what we learned, we finally found a dentist whom Zeeka loved so much, because she got to wear cute little tiger shades while sitting on the dentist’s chair. She also got to meet Mr. Bee  and Mr. Straw (dentist’s tools). She made Zeeka’s visit to the dentist fun. I hope she takes on the habit of going to the dentist regularly and loves it, as much as she loves handwashing. 🙂

Why Alcon Dailies are the Best Choice for Contact Lenses for Teens

When I was younger, I was diagnosed with Myopia because of the amount of reading I did way back. And like every teenager, And like every teenager, I worried about wearing glasses and teased as ‘four-eyes’. Good thing contact lenses are now available for everyone to use.

Myopia is actually a very common condition for teenagers. Dr. Carmen Abesamis-Dichoso says children exposed to electronic devices are prone to nearsightedness. Children whose parents are nearsighted also tend to inherit the condition.

The good news is, myopia is treatable with the right prescription glasses. These are also the simplest and safest option for myopia correction.

The problem with glasses is its bulk. Most teenagers have an active lifestyle, and wearing glasses can be bothersome. Any change in weather can affect the lenses. And sports activities like swimming and water sports can be difficult to manage.

I recently got invited to the launching of Alcon’s Dailies Aquacomfort Plus. And I got to learn more about how teenagers can enjoy using contact lenses.

Switching from prescription eyeglasses to contact lenses is a rite of passage for most teenagers. The right pair can provide comfort, convenience, and enhanced vision to its users. That’s why choosing the right brand of contacts also matters, especially for teens who use it for the first time.

Celebrities like Dimples Romana and Gretchen Ho can attest to how easy and comfortable these contact lenses are.

Athlete and TV Host Gretchen Ho know how difficult it is to manage an active lifestyle. With her hectic schedule, tapings travel, and sports, wearing glasses can be a hassle. Alcon Dailies have proven to be handy, comfortable, and affordable option while she’s on the go.

Check out her awesome life here:

Dimples Romana’s daughter Callie is an outgoing, athletic fourteen-year-old varsity tennis player. But when she got diagnosed with high degree myopia, Callie needed to wear prescription glasses. Wearing them also restricted her movement especially during her tennis games. It also affected her self-confidence and made her more self-conscious.

At first, Dimples thought only adults can use contact lenses. Then she heard about Alcon ‘freedom’ contact lenses and how easy and safe it was for teenagers to use. So she had Callie try them on.

Since then, Callie had the freedom to move without worry. It also increased her self-confidence and helped her realize her full potential as an athlete, student, and young woman.

Alcon provides innovative products that enhance the quality of life by helping people see better. They also offer the widest spectrum of eye care products including surgical and vision care.

Developed by Alcon, Dailies Aquacomfort contact lenses deliver blink-activated moisture for
refreshing comfort throughout the day. It harnesses the power of every blink to boost comfort and dynamically reinfuses the tear film. This tear film is essential for good visual acuity, comfort, and a successful contact lens-wearing experience. Because of its multiple moisturizing agents, Alcon Dailies provide an initial cushioning effect making it comfortable for long use throughout the day.

Dailies Aquacomfort Plus is perfect for Generation Zs who are very tech-dependent. Teenagers and young adults have expressed high interests in wearing contact lenses. Survey says that they easily adapt to using contact lenses more than any other age group.

Teens and young adults also see the benefit of using contact lenses especially in today’s age of Instagram-worthy pics. Contact lenses also present teenagers with better movement for physical activities and sports.

Because of this, parents are now more open to the idea of their teenagers using contact lenses as an option.

I got the chance to personally try Dailies Aqua Comfort and I have to say, they’re easy to use. Here I am with the contact lenses on. Barely there, right?

So if you want your teenagers to make the switch, Dailies Aquacomfort Plus is the best choice.

Binge Watch on Netflix Shows this Weekend

Reset. I think I need to do this this weekend. I’ve been feeling a bit lost lately. My husband told me, over Bingsu, last night that I just need to rest. He just thinks I’m super tired. So today, I’m at a coffee shop this morning, writing this blog. Writing calms me down, and helps me regain focus again. My husband gave me my ME time this morning to relax and do things that I enjoy. Actually, he gave me the whole day to relax.

So this is my plan, I’ll spend the next two hours writing and reading. Then I’ll go home for lunch and binge watch shows on Netflix. In this post, I’d like to share with you shows that I loved or love (since I’m still watching them) on Netflix. By the way, for those of you who don’t know, you can get Netflix with Globe through the following:

– BROADBAND: Get a free 6-month subscription to Netflix with Plan 1299 and up.

Series of Unfortunate Events

A Series of Unfortunate Events

SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS

Starring Emmy- and Tony-winning performer Neil Patrick Harris and backed by an outstanding ensemble cast, Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events is executive produced by acclaimed filmmaker and Emmy® Award winner Barry Sonnenfeld (the Men in Black films, Pushing Daisies, The Addams Family), who directs four of the episodes.

I love this series because of the superb script, witty lines and fantastic actors! This is a must watch for the whole family.

Santa Clarita Diet

Santa Clarita Diet Season 2

SANTA CLARITA DIET

In the singlecamera series, Joel (Timothy Olyphant, Justified) and Sheila (Drew Barrymore, Blended) are husband and wife realtors leading vaguely discontented lives in the L.A. suburb of Santa Clarita, until Sheila goes through a dramatic change sending both their lives down a road of death and destruction…but in a good way.

Apart from being a Drew Barrymore fan, what I love about this series is that it’s very REAL (well, except for the flesh-eating-wife part). The relationship between Joel and Sheila represents what couples go through. This series is very relatable and charming!

SOMETHING IN THE RAIN

I’m a sucker for romantic comedies and korean drama. So the first time I saw Something in the Rain (English title) or Pretty Sister Who Buys Me Food (literal title), I was drawn to it. This romcom reminds us that love knows no age. Love is a decision; you have the right to choose a person and love him/her. Super kilig lang when watching this series!

ALI WONG: BABY COBRA

She’s my favorite stand up comedian! She usually talks about being a mom, pregnancy, feminism, her sexual adventures (so this is for grown-ups only) and other topics. Watch her first show on Netflix called Baby Cobra then watch Hard Knock Wife next. You will surely fall off your seat laughing!

Every month, I will share with you new shows that I have discovered! Follow me on Instagram @gingerarboleda and follow my Instagram stories! I’ll share a guide on a weekly basis!

Do you have other shows on Netflix that you want to recommend? Please share with me on the comments section below! 🙂
