GINspiration — Life Lessons

Talks about Mommy Ginger’s life lessons for Baby Zeeka.

Wake Up Inspired

I wake up inspired every day. Well, for one, I really am a morning person. But the real reason why I wake up inspired is that I see so many things that I can work on. I see so many things that I can do to make the world a better place. Oh, before you unfriend me on Facebook and think that I’m a total lunatic blabbing about being a superhero and wanting to change the world, you need to meet me. I’m really this gregarious and passionate about making positive changes in our country (okay, and prolly even the world but let’s not get to that just yet).

I was recently interviewed by Mike Grogran, an international speaker about being an entrepreneur. I super (yes, I always use this word) love this interview! It was one of the most exciting and comfortable interviews I have ever done. Kuddos to you Mike for being such a wonderful interviewer. Before going on to read the rest of this article, please do listen to the recording here:

EPISODE 8: UNLEASHING YOUR ENTREPRENEURIAL STREAK WITH GINGER ARBOLEDA

Best of You

I hope that you liked the interview! In my article today, I wanted to share how I am always inspired. People ask me why I’m always so “hyper” and when I talk about my mission in life, I’m always so passionate?

Find things that will make you fall in love again. I’m not talking about puppy love or crushes. I’m talking about about falling in love with LIFE. Find things that make you feel excited, things that put you in a good mood, things that make you lov life more! For example, when I want to write amazing articles or when I need a little bit of a boost, I open my Spotify account and play a playlist called Acoustic Morning.

Take a morning walk with nothing in mind. I often rush hurriedly, jumping from one task to the next. But there are days when I just take time out to go to the bank and I don’t walk hurriedly to it. I just breathe in and I get to feel more present. I get to feel and see (really see) things happening. And during those days when I start it this way, I am more focused and more productive.

Take up a hobby. Everyone needs a break every once in a while. Try to look for something that you would want to do during your free time. One of the things that we do as a couple at home in the evenings is we play boardgames. It relaxes us both and we get to spend time together.

Write down things that you are grateful for. It really helps to remind yourself that the world isn’t so bad. Your life isn’t that bad. There are more things that you should be grateful for! Having a notebook, a journal or a blog where you write down things that you are grateful for can make your more inspired. The next day, you’ll wake up feeling more confident and optimistic!

These are just some of the things… plus coffee that helps me wake up inspired and ready to face to world! How about you? Do you wake up inspired, too?

Knowing One’s Self

Do you ever get to the point where everything is going great, but you still think that you’re lost. I felt this about myself a few weeks back. Maybe that wasn’t the right feeling. It was more like I felt detached from everyone. If I were to be asked to draw myself living in the world, I would have drawn myself in one edge of the paper and the whole world and the people living on it on another side of the paper. What I hated about it is that I don’t know why I felt this way. This is probably why I chose the the word FEEL as my ‘one word’ this year. It all makes sense now.

If you have met me or have spent time with me, you’ll notice that I’m easy to get along with and I laugh a lot (super babaw), but most times, too (when I’m not laughing), I think of a lot of things. I have a checklist, figuratively speaking (awww, I dedicate this word to my friend Chely and to James who were so devastated to know that this word’s meaning has changed), in my mind with a gazillion things written on it. I also have a lot of prototypes in my head, waiting to be implemented and executed.

The world that we live in is so fast and this has become the norm. We say that one thing constant in this world is change, and we have become so used to it that we think everything in our lives are indispensable and that we could just change it. People, family, values taught to us by our parents, relationships, words spoken, etc. — these can all just be set aside if we’re done with it or if we find these things useless. This makes me sad. Don’t get me wrong. I’m sad because I know that I, too, am guilty of this. I take a lot of things for granted, and maybe that is why I felt detached and lost.

I am so glad that I took this teacher’s training class under James Brown (American Yoga School), because it taught me a lot more than just asanas (poses) or teaching skills. The biggest thing that I learned is that we need to live in the now and savor every moment of it. The pain or the discomfort that you feel during your practice, embrace it for it teaches you to focus, to know yourself better. It taught me more things about myself. It taught me that inspite of my weaknesses, I know that I am very determined. It taught me that even with the tons of things that I need to do, I am but human and I need to simplify. It taught me that life is filled with a roller coaster of emotions and everyday presents a challenge of either staying positive or beating yourself up with negativity.

My YTT Experience with Jame Brown

This experience has also taught me that we are all connected — our actions and decisions affect not only ourselves, but it also affects others. Yes, we should embrace our individuality, but we should learn how to respect each other and appreciate each one’s quirkiness and strengths and help them in their weaknesses.

Two more days and I will graduate from this Yoga 200 hour Teacher Training Course. I am not sure yet of what my plans are after this, but I know that I will graduate knowing that I have become a better person and a better yoga practitioner.

PS. This article is dedicated to my classmates who I love dearly. I will surely miss you! I think I’m gonna cry! 🙁 To Onelife Studio, thank your for the opportunity to learn. Thanks Tanya and team! 🙂 And to James Brown, thank you for all the knowledge and the friendship that you have extended. ‘Til we meet again!

On Being Thankful

I’m sitting at an empty couch at 7:00 am. I’m at the living room of a friend’s tita’s house in Tagaytay. It’s so cold and weirdly, I’m wearing shorts and a sleeveless shirt. I’m thinking that I need to get up to the second floor and get my jacket, but thoughts are just pouring out and I feel that I need to write it down.

I decided to write about being grateful. I know that it’s such a simple topic and I guess some of you may think that writing about it is overrated, but I just noticed that most of us tend to forget to say thank you. In this fast paced world, we are used to things being customized, given and presented to us right away. With this, we tend to think that things are really made for us, so we take things for granted.

During the long drive and during this short stay in Tagaytay, I thought of the so many things that I should be thankful for, so in this post, I decided to create a list of the things that I am thankful for.

I am thankful!

I am thankful!

I am thankful for the rustling of the leaves outside which inspired me to write this article.

I am thankful for those kisses planted on my forehead by my husband before he leaves for work while I’m still half-asleep.

I’m thankful for that knock on the door every morning from my little darling who shouts “mama”.

I’m grateful for the times when I get to play with my daughter and teach her about life through actions more than words.

I am grateful for my mom and dad who always motivates and inspires me to do my best.

I am grateful for my fun loving and spontaneous in-laws who always make me laugh with their super “bentang” jokes.

I’m thankful for my titos and titas who are just adorable when they exchange viber stickers every morning — They are just so amazed with this newly found tool for communicating! Lol!

I’m grateful for my sister and her great fashion advice. I am grateful for the numerous times she’s been there for me.

I’m thankful for technology which makes my work easier.

I am thankful for Uber because it takes me places even if I don’t know how to drive.

I’m grateful for Spotify that I get to listen to this playlist on the background will creating this article.

I’m grateful for the smell of coffee. I am thankful for coffee, period.

I’m grateful for the people that I meet everyday and for the opportunities of collaboration.

I am thankful for my business partners and the bright ideas that they come up with. I am thankful that these are people who have the same set of business values and the same set of beliefs when it comes to starting a business.

I am thankful for intimate conversations with people especially when you get to see a side of them that you don’t ever get to see.

I am thankful for my Manila Workshops team, both old and new directors and associates. I may not often say this but each and every member is valuable and contributes to the success of Manila Workshops.

I am thankful that I have been given this chance to help entrepreneurs through Love the Leap and business coaching.

I am thankful that people trust me to guide them in their businesses.

I am thankful that people believe in continuous learning and I am thankful that I still find joy in learning.

I am thankful that my heart is still restless as it continuous to seek for the next big things. I am thankful that I still crave for innovation and improvement.

I am grateful that for my work-at-home life since I get to spend more time with my daughter.

I am grateful that I have this blog where I can share things that I feel like this.

I am grateful for brand sponsors who believe that I have what it takes to help them achieve their goals.

I am thankful for my corporate experiences.

I am thankful for all the hardships that I have experienced in the past. I am thankful that these are too many to list because all of these made me a stronger person.

I am thankful that more and more people are realizing that they need to live the life that they want and more and more people are making steps to achieve that.

I am thankful to be part of the MakeitBlissful.com team, which makes me always find bliss in everything that I do.

I am thankful for competition because I don’t get to rest on my laurels.

I am grateful that in my mind, my “why’s” for doing things are clear and when the time comes that I need to change my “why’s”, I will be thankful because I know that somehow it will also be clear that it’s time to change it.

I am thankful that I have my faith and God which I can turn to especially in times when I feel down and alone.

I am thankful for realizing that there are so many things to be grateful for.

Life Lesson #4: Distinguishing Needs vs. Wants

My Dear Zeeka,

I came across a really expensive ‘educational’ thing that I wanted to buy for you. I told your dad that I wanted to buy them, but all I got was a look of disbelief and a big NO. I knew though that it was a pretty irrational purchase. I could actually get something of the same kind for less.

There are things in life, baby, that you have to forgo since these are mere wants and not needs. Learn to know the difference early on. Learn that there are things that you don’t really need. Even if you think that it will make you happy, it will be a superficial happiness that you will feel.

Getting just the essentials and having just the basics ‘in life’ will make you a thousand fold genuinely happier. Sometimes, wanting causes complications and just makes your life more miserable.

Learn to love what you have and be contented with it. Strive, but not for luxury or wants, but strive to provide your family and your future children with the basics like daily sustenance, education, a comfortable life, love and care. Daily hugs and kisses far outweigh Ipads and gadgets!

Love Lots,

Mommy Ginger

Life Lesson #3: Learn to Love Yourself

Dearest Zeeka,

In the stillness of the morning, I look at you. I wonder how anyone or anything can be so perfect. I touch your flawless skin, and even while sleeping, you give me than cute little grin.

I wonder what it is you’re thinking of. I wonder if you see me, your Mommy. I wonder if you see Daddy. I wonder if you see and feel the love that we both have for you.

My Zeeka's First Bath

My Zeeka’s First Bath

We just watched a movie. The guy in the movie had two children and they were both girls. I could very much relate to the movie, since it showed the relationship that the mommy and daddy had with their two girls. It brought me to think about you, Zeeka — your future and how you would be to us your mommy and daddy.

When you grow older, I know that you will have a mind of your own. You will form your own thoughts and ideas about people, things and even yourself. As early as now, I want you to know that you are perfect. You are perfect since God created you and He gave you to us. You are our precious gift from God.

I want you to learn how to love and appreciate yourself. I know that there will be times that you may think differently, especially at times when the world seems to be against you. Remember that to us, the people who love you, you are the most beautiful and talented girl in the world.

Also, never doubt your capabilities. If at first you fail at what you do, rise up and try again. There is nothing wrong with failing. Failing and falling are steps on the ‘success’ ladder. Mommy and Daddy also experience failure and defeat (until now), but this doesn’t make you less of a person. Also, remember that we will always be here for you during these trying times. Be confident and never forget to pray that you may overcome all of these obstacles.

Zeeka, my wish for you is that you learn to love yourself. That love overflows. By loving yourself, you get to love others and have enough courage and strength to show others that you love them.

We love you!
