Breastfeeding and New Born Care

August is National Breastfeeding Awareness month. I love that such a great loving act is given an entire month for people to focus on and to celebrate. For those without child, it may seem to be such a petty thing to celebrate but believe me, it is worth celebrating every single day of this month. When I was single, I used to think that I would just give my baby formula to save me the hassle and the time. I used to think that it was all about the type of woman you are. I always thought that breastfeeding was only for the domesticated moms. But when I attended classes before, I truly saw its value and benefits. I think every mom should try to understand how breastfeeding works and why it is important.

On August 22, 2015, Manila Workshops, in partnership with The Parenting Emporium, is holding a rerun of the lecture and demonstration about breastfeeding and newborn care.

Understanding Digital Marketing

I had a conversation with a friend recently about the best way of using Facebook for advertising our products and services. We are both business owners and one of the tedious parts of the running a business is really marketing. Marketing is essential and requires strategic thinking. Because of technological advancements, marketing has changed. There are new tools that you can use in the realm of Digital Marketing.

According to Digital Marketing Philippines, Digital Marketing helps generate better revenues. Companies using digital marketing strategies have 2.8 times better revenue growth expectancy. Small and medium enterprises using digital marketing techniques will have 3.3 times better chances of expanding their workforce and business. The internet will remarkably help the growth for small and medium enterprises. Business2Community (business2community.com) forecasts that digital marketing budgets will increase by 35% in 2016. This is a great opportunity for freelancers to ride the wave and earn money through digital marketing jobs.

For traditional business owners and for those like me, who were born in the era where tri-media and below-the-line advertising were popular, Digital Marketing may be a bit hard to comprehend (especially for one without a marketing background). We know the importance of understanding this and we really want to know how, but we don’t know where to begin. Lucky for you, Freelancer.ph and ManilaWorkshops.com have partnered up to bring you this session for the Talino Talks Workshop Series.

#iHOPE (Hands on Parent while Earning) through Entrepreneurship

We all have hopes and dreams and one of the things that I hoped for exactly three years ago was to be a Hands-on-Parent. Why exactly three years ago? Because on July 2012, I found out out I was pregnant. It was a different feeling — a great and incomparable feeling to realize that you’re bringing in life to this world. I know that I have young readers and believe me, when you get to that point, you’ll remember this article and say, shucks, she was right! haha! You really can’t compare the feeling the you feel when you find out you’re pregnant and especially that feeling you feel when you see the baby for the first time to anything else.

When I found out I was pregnant, that was the time when I made the huge decision that I wanted to be a Hands on Parent while Earning (HOPE). I wanted to be there with my daughter during her formative years. I wanted her to grow up with the right values and these would be that values that we parents have shared. I used to think that the greatest fear I would have as a parent is not having enough to put her through school, but now, the greatest fear that I have is if she grows us to be a kind-hearted, independent and happy individual. Now, thinking about that is something that I’m scared about, because with money, you can find ways and means to solve that problem. When it comes to teaching values though, that I find to be more challenging. The question that ran through my mind during the time before I decided to take the leap was how can I teach her and be effective in sharing my values if most of the time, I’m not there with her? My  work before really required me to be out a lot of times. Plus, the stress that I got from it made me think that I would be so tired and won’t be mentally “present” when I talk to her at night.

Fast forward to today, after almost three years as a hands-on-parent while earning, I think I did the right thing and made the right decision. Now, I have a business (actually, businesses… haha!) and at the same time, I get to spend time with my daughter whenever I want to. When I was invited by Teresa, my good friend who came up with this idea of the HOPE summit to be one of the speakers, I immediately said yes. I said yes because jumping into being an entrepreneur is challenging and having a support system and having someone to talk to is crucial.

Hope

I said yes because I want to share how we, as a couple, made it work as hands-on-parents while earning as an entrepreneur and as an employee (for my husband). I also want to share the challenges that we faced. My talk will focus more though about being a hands-on-parent / entrepreneur.

I’d like to know more about what you want to hear from me, so please feel free to leave your comments below. I haven’t created my presentation for this because I wanted to answer real questions from real parents. Please let me know what you want to learn from this talk.

Hope 2

If you want to hear more from me and from other hands-on-parents, sign up for my friend, Teresa’s summit. You can check out the details in this link: http://www.fulllifecube.com/hope-summit-2015/

Please please let me know what your questions are and leave it at the comment section below! Thanks a lot!

Setting up a Blog or a Website using WordPress

When setting up a blog or a website, it’s good to know the basics of handling your content management system or CMS. The CMS is your window to everything that you want to do with your site. If you want to upload pictures, write an article, add a video, etc., you log into your content management system and you add them all there or edit or delete things from there. The content management system that I use for all of my blogs and website is WordPress.

I started using WordPress in 2008 and it was so convenient for me. Burn Gutierrez and I would like to share with you, through the Webinar Series called Enter Entrepreneurship, on how easy it is to start a blog or a website. We have invited Mr. Jerome Esperanza to help us demystify WordPress.
