I love personalized things. It’s nearing Christmas and I need to buy personalized notecards once again. We (husband and I), normally send cards to soem of our family and friends. I just realized that I ran out of my own personal stock of cards that we give out during birthdays, Christmas, etc. This made me interested to feature our mompreneur guest of the day, Carmie Taboso – Baretto of The Best Impressions.

Carmie is a mother of three kids. Her son Josh just graduated from College this year. Her daughter Kristen is 16 and Tristan, the youngest is in Grade 5 at Xavier School. My interview with Mompreneur Carmie Barretto of The Best Impressions
Ginger: Hi Carmie! It’s so nice to have you as our guest momprenuer here at MommyGinger.com. Can you please tell me about your brand? What is it and when did you start this business?
Carmie: The Best Impressions is an authorized retailer of self-inking, personalized stampers & desk embossers. I started this since February 2013.
Ginger: So your business is already almost two years. Congratulations! Who is your target market for The Best Impressions?
Carmie: Our target market are mostly women who loves personalized items,. We target working mom who loves crafts & stationery materials. We also market to soon-to-be-wedded-couples who want something different for their invites. We also target mommies who love personalized items for their kids.
Ginger: How did you come up with this idea?
Carmie: It was just a personal hobby.
Ginger: That’s so nice! We can see here that hobbies can turn into something profitable. So, what made you decide to turn your hobby into a business?
Carmie: I felt there is a demand because people nowadays love anything that’s personalized, and I thought, what more if they had their own stamper and embosser! The possibilities would be endless! Once you have tried using these, you’ll find it to be so addicting. One can never have enough of these things.
Ginger: Yeah, I’m sure, they’re addicting and I’m sure you have a lot of clients already. But were there any obstacles that you faced when you decided to pursue becoming a Mompreneur?
Carmie: I realized I have less time for the kids, especially with my youngest, since I used to tutor him after school when I came home from work. I go to work 4 times a week, because I have to devote my Friday or Saturday to my personal business, too.
Ginger: I am impressed. You’re still a working mom and at the same time, you opted to start your own business. I hear a lot of moms with this same obstacle (time management). So Carmie, as a successful momprenuer, what traits do you think a Mompreneur should have when starting their own business?
Carmie: One should have Passion. One needs to have that desire or interest to do something to be able to succeed. One should be Motivated. We all have ambitons in life, but without determination, you will never be able to reach our goals in life. Be Innovative. Be one step ahead. We should keep on looking for new ideas, new & fresh products which will interest buyers.
Ginger: Very well said. Do you believe that everyone should become entrepreneurs?
Carmie: In this day & age? Yes, I believe so, most especially if you grew up with business-minded parents and if you are surrounded by hard-working people in the family. My dad has raised us to believe that hard work pays off. No pain, no gain.
Ginger: Any unforgettable moments or lessons that you learned as a Mompreneur?
Carmie: No matter how busy our work is, let us not forget that at the end of the day, its Family First! Drop everything when you step in your comfort zone and just spend time with the kids.
Ginger: What advice can you give to other Mompreneurs?
Carmie: No matter how busy our work is, allot time to our loved ones. We can never bring back time, the children are growing up so fast, lets not devote everything to work. At the end of the day, our family is the most important part of our life.
Ginger: Thank you so much, Carmie for your words of wisdom! May you continue to inspire other mompreneurs.
