I attended the What to Know before giving birth workshop last Saturday and it reminded me of the preparations that we did before we had Zeeka. Preparing for a baby was so much fun! After having this adorable little girl, I’m so excited to have baby number 2, BUT I have things to fix first this year. We might try for baby number 2 next year when things go as planned.
The things that I prepared before having Zeeka were:
1) My own health: I know that a lot of people think that preparing for a baby need not to be super thought of nor worried about. You’ll just pop the baby out and end of story. For me, I took care of my health, not because I’m a panicky person or super praning, but because I wanted me and the baby to be safe and also to prevent negative things from happening. They always say that prevention is better than cure, and I believe so, too, so i did what i could to keep us both safe from harm.
2) Finances: I really did my research and went to the hospital to ask for a cost estimate for delivery. This is advise that you may want to do. Just go to the hospital and ask if they can give you a rough estimate. For those giving birth at Asian Hospital, you can leave a comment below and i will email you the costs of my labor and delivery.
3) Insurance: I got the services of Stemcord for Cord Blood banking. Again, nothing is certain in this world so just to have a backup plan, i am storing Zeeka’s cord blood with them that we may use for (knock on wood) any untoward incident that may happen in the future.
4) Nursery room and baby’s things: Yes, you should prepare for this because this is one of the fun things that you can do as a couple! Plus, shopping is such a relaxing activity! (Maybe more relaxing for moms than for the dads… Hehe).
I’ve been receiving a lot of inquiries about labor costs and pregnancy costs in this blog. It seems that there are a lot if expecting moms and dads. So exciting for you, guys! This will be one of the best moments of your life so enjoy each and every moment.
With that, Manila Workshops (my other baby) and its sponsors for the What to Know Before giving Birth (the rerun) would like to make things even more special for you, expecting parents. We are giving away Prizes from Unilab, St. Patrick, Sebamed, and Palmer’s. We will have two winners. Oh no! Prizes have to be picked up? I don’t mind paying for the shipping fee if I’ll be the lucky one :-))
From the first child I have, first thing I prepared for the coming of my baby is my emotional aspect. I have heard “horrifying” stories of pregnant women on getting dizzy, nauseated and all the negative part. And so prayers are all I have to brave me on the possible effects that might happen to me. And praise God, I didn’t experience those ugly episodes that most pregnant women underwent. Another thing that I religiously do is to visit my OB-Gyne. I see to it that I go on my scheduled appointment. On that way, we would not how my baby is doing inside my womb and also my health part. Third, together with my hubby since I am also working, we set aside savings from our salaries to prepare for my hospitalization. We want that I deliver via normal delivery but we prepared financially for a possible CS delivery. And again, praise to God, I had normal delivery. As for the baby’s things, we are glad and blessed that many are generous enough to give us the necessary things needed by my baby. And so we just bought a few pieces that are still needed.

Basically, I prepared for the coming of the baby by reading books and parenting/pregnancy website on the web. One thing that was most helpful was reading mommy bloggers experience of their own pregnancy. I also sought help from family, friends and doctor. My husband and I also attended a birth preparation class which was really helpful in clarifying my concerns and “false expections” about having a new baby. Financially, I started saving up the moment I found out I was pregnant. One thing that I did that I think was important was to check the medical coverage of our HMO provider so we were able to financially prepare for the arrival of our baby.

Hi Erin! 🙂 Thanks for sharing! 🙂 You really can get a lot of information from different channels! 🙂 Great job!
Preparing for a baby is much exciting. i read books about pregnancy and parenting, Mr. Google is such a big help for me, aside from that i stalked on many blogs regarding pregnancy and motherhood. We started up saving a money for the delivery from the time we knew baby was coming.
How i prepared for my sons arrival, same as you my health and our finances was on top of my list. Then his health also while im carrying him. Prayed a lot as well. I would love to get the stem cord too if only i knew it during my pregnancy cause i know its important these days. Breast feeding classes would also be best. Though i breastfed my son purely from birth to three yrs of age i could have learned more about it the right way. 🙂

I think there are 3 important things that I need to prepare: FINANCES ( I am sure its gonna be CS), MY HEALTH (consult my doctors) and BABY THINGS (yey! for a reason to shop without missing the essentials because i think first time moms would buy the fanciest things and clothes but neglecting the must-haves)
