My daughter and I joined this super fun call with Netflix where they shared two new Netflix kid-friendly features. In our household, it has been a habit to watch a new kid-friendly show every weekend.
We love watching with Zeeka because it’s a great way to bond with her and get to know her thoughts about different things.
Shows and movies are an important way for kids to connect with the world – helping to teach them about new places, create bonds with family or friends and understand other perspectives.
We learned about the two Netflix kid-friendly features and I’d like to share these with you, too. This will help families like you navigate around Netflix and discover new shows that you can watch with your family – whether it’s a fantasy film like Wish Dragon or an action-adventure series like Ridley Jones.
Bi-Weekly Kids Recap Emails
Netflix Bi-Weekly Recap Emails
First, there will be bi-weekly kids recap emails to give parents a better understanding of your child’s preferences and news ways to engage those interests, like:
Recommendations based on your child’s favorite shows and movies;
Printable coloring sheets and activities inspired by your kid’s favorite characters;
Top themes or topics charts that show the types of programs your child enjoys most (i.e. science, friendship); and
Tips for how to use our Kids features on Netflix.
Now, Zeeka is always following up with me if I have already gotten an email from Netflix… LOL!
Kids Top 10
Second, Netflix launched Kids Top 10 rows featuring our most popular children’s content in your country.
Netflix has seen how Top 10 rows help members / subscribers find something to watch. And of course, helping families make the best decisions has always been important to them so now, they are offering a wide variety of safe (and fun!) tools for younger viewers like kids profiles, custom ratings and profile locks.
The Top 10 rows feature gives kids recommendations on what to watch next.
Super amazing, right? Connecting kids with their families, friends and stories around the world has never been easier. Check out these two new Netflix kid-friendly features.
Recently, during the “sale” season of the online stores, I bought a few beauty and skincare product. One of the things that I bought online from one of the stores is a sleeping mask under a popular brand that I usually buy. I love this brand, so I really wanted to buy it during the sale season.
I went online and saw the official store of the brand, but of course, being the typical consumer, I wanted a better deal. I searched for the cheapest product and found one which was sold in another “store” at 20% cheaper. I added that into my cart, and after a few days, it was delivered to me.
When I got the product, I was so excited. I finished the entire bottle of what I bought in the brand’s store in a mall, so I really wanted to use it when it arrived. When I slashed through the bubble wrap, I saw the box and something did not feel right.
I’m an avid beauty (mostly skin care) blogger and I know what this product looks like. I immediately had a feeling that what I bought wasn’t the real deal. The box didn’t look like the one I had before. When I pulled out the container, the seal wasn’t sealed thoroughly. And when I opened it, it’s smell was close to the original, but the color and the viscosity was not quite as how I remembered it to be.
I immediately went to my husband, and mentioned that I didn’t feel quite at ease with the product. He told me not to use it. Obviously, I didn’t use it in my face, but I thought “sayang naman” (I spent money, so at least use it somewhere else) so I used it on my leg. I didn’t get any allergies or anything. That was the only time I used it.
Then, a week after, I saw the series on Netflix called Broken. The first episode was about the counterfeit beauty products that are being sold.
That’s when I realized how dangerous these counterfeit beauty products are to your health. I decided to throw the product that I bought.
I highly suggest that you check out this series.
Have you ever been a victim? Share your story with me 🙂
Moving forward, personally, I will check if the store is either the online store of the brand itself or at least the official distributor of the brand.
Sharing this so that we can all be aware that there are counterfeit beauty products out there.
Some friends have advised me — Stop watching Netflix. You become unproductive.
Yes, oh so evil, Netflix! You have become the major temptress in this insane life of mine.
I have succumb to the temptation, and willingly allow myself to be seduced. But hear me out first, before you judge. I need it!
Aside from the fact that I need a break from running a business and raising a child, I get to learn a lot of secrets to running a business by watching shows on Netflix (by the way, this isn’t a sponsored post… just to put it out there!)
So today, especially when you want to finally start that business that you have always wanted to start, watch Netflix shows. Or if you’re like me, trying to survive the cut-throat and challenging world of entrepreneurship where only the ones with hard core GRIT survive, just give in to the temptation. It won’t hurt.
I’m sharing a list of my favorite shows with quotes or lines that I love, because each one taught me a lesson. Each one also either inspired me emotionally or urged me to write strategies and plans.
Umbrella Academy
Line: One of the lines exchanged in the show was between Number 5 and Vanya:
Number Five: I’ve decided you’re the only one I can trust.
Vanya: Why me?
Number 5: Because you’re ordinary. Because you’ll listen.
Lesson: Sincerely listen and be your own unique self.
As confident as I may seem, there are a lot of times when I feel sincerely out of place. I’ve suffered having Impostor Syndrome a lot of times. I always feel like I’m not good enough or that I shouldn’t be chosen for a lot of things.
But rather than focusing on what you can or can’t do, I have decided a long time ago to shift the focus from me to other people. How do you do that? Just listen. Intentionally listen and just be there for the other person. You’ll discover a lot about the other person (and a lot about you, too) in the process of the conversation.
Also, it will always be a breath of fresh air when you do YOU. You don’t have to like the same things other people like. You don’t have to do what people who inspire you in social media do. Do your own thing. Be your own self. We need a world with people with different talents and strengths. It’s good to have a life where you want to be better and always strive for excellence, but it has to be your own path. You have to steer your own ship towards where you want it to go.
Stranger Things
Line: One of the lines of Dustin Henderson (Stranger Things, Season 2)
I am on a curiosity voyage, and I need my paddles to travel. These books are my paddles. I need my paddles.
Lesson: Read books. It will guide you in this journey.
There are a lot of hurdles in life that you have to overcome. There were numerous times when we would get stuck looking for the right answer to a business decision that we need to make.
Oftentimes, the secrets to running a business are just in front of you stored in books. Authors write books because it’s a way to pass on their experiences to a massive following. Most of them write, because they feel that it’s their obligation and purpose to help others learn from mistakes made in the past.
I’ve always admired authors, and the work that they have. When you think of books as “secrets and keys to unlock the mysteries of life”, wouldn’t you want to read more?
House of Cards
Line: One of the amazing lines of Frank Underwood
History is earned. You win the day, and then you win the day after, and you do the same thing every day until you’re dead. And you’re remembered not for the winning, but because you never lost!
Lesson: Success takes time. Perseverance and grit is what will make you survive and eventually, succeed.
Ever since we started our business, a lot of people trusted us BUT, a lot of people also thought that we would or will eventually fail. This will be the same journey for you when you decide to embark on this entrepreneurship journey. I guarantee you.
When you hear these things from other people, you’ll sometimes wonder “Yeah, he’s/she’s right! What the F am I doing with my life when I can opt to live comfortably. I’m not dumb. I work smart and hard. I have my family’s lives at stake here for crying out loud!Wake up <insert your name here>”
This I tell you, if you want to make a difference and if you want to feel that sense of fulfilment and purpose (in any thing that you’re doing — not just in business, but in employment or in being a professional, etc.), don’t expect it to come in a day, or in a month, or in a year.
I’ve noticed that the reason why people quit their jobs is that they think that they will find fulfilment in a month or in a year or even three years.
What I’ve learned is that it takes decades, hell, even a lifetime to possibly get to that point where you feel that you’ve made a difference. And the bigger the difference, the longer the time it takes.
This is why I love this line. People won’t remember the little wins that you’ve had for your company — the press write-ups and all. What they will remember is that you continuously fought and that you never gave up.
And changing direction, doesn’t mean giving up. It just means your pivoting and learning from the experiences that you’ve had. Changing direction just means changing direction, so don’t feel bad about it. In my opinion, it’s not equivalent to quitting. I’d liken it to growing.
Altered Carbon
Line: From Quellcrist Falconer
First thing you’ll learn is that nothing is what it seems. Ignore your assumptions. Don’t trust anything. What you see, what you hear, what people tell you, what you think you remember.
Lesson: Question everything to get to the answer.
I think one of the gifts that I have is that I have “hunches” when it comes to business, and they turn out to be right. When it comes to assessing people though, I’m pretty bad at it. I tend to see the good in people and always see the positive. So being in business has really taught me to question and ask for more information, before making decisions.
Quells quote here may be an exaggeration, but it teaches is that we need to be more inquisitive. Maybe most people and things are still authentic and remain true to their form. With technology, social media, and all of these changes, authentic appearances and true intentions are hidden in “noise” and in filters.
So if you’re in business, you have to practice looking for, hearing and seeing what your customers truly want and need.
So, see… You can learn a lot from watching shows on Netflix. The next time your spouse or friend brings this up, just say that Netflix is your TED Talks.

Reset. I think I need to do this this weekend. I’ve been feeling a bit lost lately. My husband told me, over Bingsu, last night that I just need to rest. He just thinks I’m super tired. So today, I’m at a coffee shop this morning, writing this blog. Writing calms me down, and helps me regain focus again. My husband gave me my ME time this morning to relax and do things that I enjoy. Actually, he gave me the whole day to relax.
So this is my plan, I’ll spend the next two hours writing and reading. Then I’ll go home for lunch and binge watch shows on Netflix. In this post, I’d like to share with you shows that I loved or love (since I’m still watching them) on Netflix. By the way, for those of you who don’t know, you can get Netflix with Globe through the following:

Series of Unfortunate Events
A Series of Unfortunate Events
SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS
Starring Emmy- and Tony-winning performer Neil Patrick Harris and backed by an outstanding ensemble cast, Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events is executive produced by acclaimed filmmaker and Emmy® Award winner Barry Sonnenfeld (the Men in Black films, Pushing Daisies, The Addams Family ), who directs four of the episodes.
I love this series because of the superb script, witty lines and fantastic actors! This is a must watch for the whole family.
Santa Clarita Diet
Santa Clarita Diet Season 2
SANTA CLARITA DIET
In the singlecamera series, Joel (Timothy Olyphant, J ustified ) and Sheila (Drew Barrymore, Blended ) are husband and wife realtors leading vaguely discontented lives in the L.A. suburb of Santa Clarita, until Sheila goes through a dramatic change sending both their lives down a road of death and destruction…but in a good way.
Apart from being a Drew Barrymore fan, what I love about this series is that it’s very REAL (well, except for the flesh-eating-wife part). The relationship between Joel and Sheila represents what couples go through. This series is very relatable and charming!
SOMETHING IN THE RAIN
I’m a sucker for romantic comedies and korean drama. So the first time I saw Something in the Rain (English title) or Pretty Sister Who Buys Me Food (literal title), I was drawn to it. This romcom reminds us that love knows no age. Love is a decision; you have the right to choose a person and love him/her. Super kilig lang when watching this series!
ALI WONG: BABY COBRA
She’s my favorite stand up comedian! She usually talks about being a mom, pregnancy, feminism, her sexual adventures (so this is for grown-ups only) and other topics. Watch her first show on Netflix called Baby Cobra then watch Hard Knock Wife next. You will surely fall off your seat laughing!

This year, I thought of sharing snippets of information that I get to learn about. The first one that I’d like to share and talk to you about is CRYPTOCURRENCY and BITCOIN. There is much talk about bitcoins and cryptocurrency. Of course, I also wanted to know and study what these were!
Ayoko ngang magpahuli! Plus I wanted to know why my husband was constantly borrowing my laptop to “mine”.
What I did was I watched Banking on Bitcoin on Netflix. Here’s a trailer:
What is Cryptocurrency?
Cryptocurrency is a virtual or digital currency protected with cryptography. This feature secures transactions that are made online. Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency developed by Satoshi Nakamoto back in 2009. It functions like a real money but does not come in printed form. It can be used to buy anything online like book a hotel, buy gadgets, equipment and a lot more. The transfer of funds is much easier and cheaper due to absence of extra fees for wire transfers (more to be said about that, but that was the original intention).
Here is a short video about BITCOINS:
Others trade it. Trading of bitcoin in different currencies occur in marketplaces called “bitcoin exchanges”. Some examples of these marketplaces are Bitfinex, Bitstamp and Coinbase, which is taking the lead.
Bitcoins are stored in the user’s computer or cloud storage. This serves as the “wallet” or “virtual bank account”. It is where bitcoins are being received or transferred, withdrawn or deposited. To transfer bitcoins, just use a mobile application or the computer.
It is not regulated by any institution like the government or bank. It is checked-and-balanced by different people on different computers. Everyone validates everyone else. This is where mining comes into the picture. Mining is basically checking if the ledgers are correct. As for regulation, governments of China, Japan and Australia are now considering to regulate the system and the currency. Others are seeing the possibility of adding tax to it.
Anonymity of the owner of bitcoin is another feature. All transactions that were ever made online using a bitcoin are stored in a ledger called the blockchain. Although transactions are recorded, the personal information of the users is anonymous. Names and addresses are not revealed. It only shows the wallet IDs of the users.
That’s my learning snippet for today! I hope I helped you, even in a little way, to learn more about Crypotocurrency and bitcoins.
