How to Achieve The Picture Perfect Kitchen using the KonMari Method

Each day that you come home, do you feel relaxed and at peace? Do you feel that your home is a place where you can relax, feel safe and secure? There was a time two months ago when I felt so stressed even while at home. Thinking about the reason why this was the case, it knew that it was because of all the things scattered around the house. Our things were a mess — therefore, I felt my life was a mess, too.

I know it may sound ridiculous to you, but studies really show that a messy home or office hampers productivity. Since I work from home, this is important to me. Luckily, I have a friend who is a consultant for people who want to tidy up their home using the Konmari Method.

The Konmari Method was developed by Marie Kondo. She’s the author of The Life Changing Magic of Tidying: A Simple, Effective Way To Banish Clutter Forever and Spark Joy, Her method is being used widely by people who want to declutter their homes. I actually started decluttering using Marie Kondo’s method since last month. I haven’t finished yet, because it’s been soooo hard letting go of stuff! But I seriously believe in the KonMari Method and how it transforms our homes into peaceful, inspiring spaces.

So are you ready? Here are the steps:

1. Visualize your picture perfect home! Yes, everything starts from knowing how you want your home to look. Also, visualize the lifestyle that you want. Then ask yourself why you want to live a life like this. In business, the WHYs are important. In decluttering, your WHYs are important, too!

2. Declutter by category, not by part of the house. The KonMari Method says follow these categories: CLOTHES then BOOKS then PAPER then KOMONO (miscellaneous items) then SENTIMENTAL ITEMS. Marie explains further in detail each category into sub-categories.

3. The way to tidy-up is to place all items from one category in a spot in your home and only keep items that spark joy! Instead of throwing items away, be sure to thank them for the memories and happiness that each item gave. If you are unsure whether an item sparks joy, hold it and hug it! The KonMari method is a very emotional process..
After you tidy up, this is when you think about the proper storage.

I’m so bad though, because I skipped PAPER! Haha! So I finished tidying up my clothes and went straight to tidying up my kitchen. Before you judge me for not following the KonMari Method, the reason why I really wanted to fix the kitchen was because this is where we cook and prepare food. Also, this is the part that is exposed to a lot of house guests. We usually have boardgame nights, so I really want my kitchen to be picture perfect, neat and clean.

These were the before pictures of my kitchen. As you can see, we have been using a lot of stuff here for 5 years already. It was time to buy new things!

As you can see, I badly needed new pots and pans, a new oven, etc. Also, I didn’t get to take a picture of the insides of the cabinets, but they were all a mess!

I feel so refreshed! I did some decluttering in my home, and I’m so eager to face the day. It feels different when you see that your cabinets and drawers are so organized. These chicken variants are the bomb! Naturally, upon seeing this, I did what any sane person would do.

I got all of the flavors. Now, that I am at home and resting, I got to finish one whole pack of the Hot n’ Spicy variant. Yes, I finished it by myself.

What I loved about it is that the chicken was still so fresh. It wasn’t bloody at all when cooked. The meat was very soft and juicy. What I did was I bought ranch dressing and used it as sauce for this variant. I’ll share with you soon what my favorite will be after I go through all of the variants. Haha! All the Help that you Can Get (S&R Mother’s Day Edition)

There is a constant clamor for content that push women to believe that they can be anything and everything that they want to be. They are capable of taking on multiple roles — being a wife or mother and at the same time, someone who contributes a great deal in the home and in society. Because of this, women have continuously built self-confidence and boosted the spirits of other ladies in their circle. It’s okay to ask for help. It’s okay to tell your spouse that you really can’t handle the pressure. It’s okay to call your mom to temporarily ask her to look after the kids. It’s okay to ask help from your nanny. It’s okay to let yourself loose sometimes in order not to lose yourself.

This weather has got me looking for an air-conditioned space most of the time. I’m always inside malls. I leave the house to work elsewhere (it’s good that I co-work at Impact Hub in BGC), because turning on the aircon is becoming costly. I have looked for activities for Zeeka to do outside the house, so she won’t feel hot at home, too.

Tip #1: Keep yourself well hydrated. We run the risk of dehydration. I already know of a couple of kids who were admitted to the hospital because of dehydration. Bring a bottle of water every time. Tip #2: Position your fan well. Face your fan out, rather than in your room. With this, your room will stay cooler!

Tip #3: Exercise to let the bad vibes out! I have notices that I am always in a bad mood, because of this heat. What I do to destress and relax is to exercise using breathable clothing. I always want to feel comfortable when I exercise. I usually get home at 6:00 pm, so I just change and go out for a run. Running at around 6:00 pm onwards is the perfect time for me, because at least it’s a bit cooler than the rest of the day.

Tip #4: At home, have an ice pack ready for use. If you feel hot, just grab the ice pack and use it!

Tip #5: Have different kinds of drinks of cold drinks available in your home and inside your ref to entice you to drink more. We have these different bottled drinks at home, which we all got from S&R Membership Club.
